Biography
Dr. Fakrul Alam is a retired professor of the Department of English at the University of Dhaka. He is currently the Bangabandhu Chair Professor of the department of History, University of Dhaka and was previously UGC Professor and Supernumerary Professor of its Department of English, and Director of its Bangabandhu Research Institute for Peace and Liberty. He retired from the University of Dhaka on June 30, 2017. From September 2017 to February 2019, he was Pro-Vice Chancellor of East West University.
He received the SAARC Literature Award in 2012 at the SAARC Literature Festival, Lucknow, and the Bangla Academy Puroshkar (Literature Award) for Translation in 2013. He received the FOSWAL Literature AWARD in 2023.
Dr. Fakrul Alam became a faculty member at the Department of English of the University of Dhaka in October, 1975. As of today, he has taught at several universities around the globe, including Clemson University, USA as a Fulbright Scholar, and Jadavpur University, India as a Visiting Associate Professor.
At present, he is a Member, Board of Trustees of Transparency International, Bangladesh, and a Board Member of Bengal Foundation.
He is a Member of the Academic Council of the University of Dhaka and of the Syndicate and Academic Council of Notre Dame University, Bangladesh. He is also a Member of the Academic Council of North South University.
