He received the SAARC Literature Award in 2012 at the SAARC Literature Festival, Lucknow, and the Bangla Academy Puroshkar (Literature Award) for Translation in 2013. He received the FOSWAL Literature AWARD in 2023.

Dr. Fakrul Alam became a faculty member at the Department of English of the University of Dhaka in October, 1975. As of today, he has taught at several universities around the globe, including Clemson University, USA as a Fulbright Scholar, and Jadavpur University, India as a Visiting Associate Professor.

Fakrul Alam’s first book was Daniel Defoe: Colonial Propagandist. He writes in a vibrant style with logical argumentation on literary matters that range from colonial to postcolonial literature.
